Water-based method to improve your child's physical and mental development

Busy moms & dads

Today’s mom often works outside the home, sometimes has more than one child, making it difficult to set aside a special time for their infants. But the WaterWayBabies System blocks out 30-45 minutes when the two of you can do something together.

Can’t be beat!! Happy swimming. :)

Does your hospital have a therapy pool?

Today, I was very surprised to learn that Texas Children’s Hospital, here in Houston, TX, does not have a therapy pool onsite. There was one, but it was filled in during the renovations after the Allison floods and never replaced. Instead, the staff have to use an indoor community pool which is barely warm and miles from the Medical Center. This means no in-patient aquatic therapy services.

Texas Children’s is one of the premier pediatric facilities in the country. And yet, the well-recognized benefits of aquatic therapy are denied…or at least, difficult to access…in one of the most well-respected health care communities in the world!

So, this caused me to wonder … what is available to the children out there who need and deserve these services….

What do you have where you live?

What to order?

I would like to help guide you on whether it is better for you to order the set of products for your child or just the neck ring. Honestly, your child will gain the most from the entire set. The pool has a diameter and a depth that will help your child be upright in the water and learn through his/her movements to paddle & move, which will promote crawling, rolling over, and walking. Of course, children progress at different levels and you know best about your child’s potential and limitations. But the stimulation and support that your child receives from the warm water environment will offer the best potential for the most progress!

That being said, the neck ring is widely used by aquatic therapists around the country and worldwide. Several have reported that they love the handles on top which allow they to move the child in the water w/o holding their body. Parents appreciate the stability the neck ring offers with baths.

So, you are the judge. The pool measures 30 inches across and 30 inches depth. It allows you to offer your child a system of swim therapy in the privacy of your own home at a very affordable price. An added benefit is the non/low chlorine bonus and the ability to adjust the water temperature to your own child’s needs.

If you have more questions, please email me directly at nancy@waterwaybabies.com. Do not hesitate to give your child the best that you can offer today!

A helpful update

Now, you can choose from 2 different sizes of neck rings:

Small should fit infants up to 12-18 months (10-18 lbs)

Large should accommodate children up to approx 40 lbs body weight

Please note the size you need when you place your order through paypal.

Swine Flu Vaccine

One of my US customers emailed me yesterday that their son had spiked a temp so they took him to the ER that night and he tested positive for H1N1. Thankfully, he was started on IV antivirals and is already discharged…although still quite sick. Another of my clients in Australia and her son both had it earlier in the season and have fully recovered although she said it really took its toll with a prolonged, awful cough.

I hope everyone else stays well…but I’m wondering – are all of you planning to have your child immunized? It is such a controversial subject. And special health issues on top of it makes for all the more complicated decision-making process.

Anyone out there care to comment?

Part of aquatic therapy’s inexplicable magic is the healing power of the medium itself. Watch this compelling video of babies with disabilities progressing on their own and you’ll see why water is such a force multiplier all by itself.

Look for the small things

Thanks to Brextin’s mom, Randi, for her enthusiastic endorsement! She is directly responsible in helping to get The Mayo Clinic outpatient pedi physical therapy dept to order a demo unit so they can show parents and do a trial session for their little clients who would benefit….then the parents order their own set. Randi is a tireless advocate for her son Brextin! You can visit Brextin’s blog to learn more about Medek therapy from Dr. Cuevas and other therapeutic modalities.

So, as with Brextin, remember to look for the small gains your child makes each day that you use the WaterWayBabies System. There will be changes, but they are not going to happen immediately. Parents, if you are interested, I can provide you a table so you can keep a record of arm movements, eye blinks, hands that begin to unfold, fingers that extend and spread…as well as kicks off the wall and the development of paddle kicking, legs moving alternatively that is the precursor for crawling. Just email me at nancy@waterwaybabies.com if you would like this chart.

Oct. 11, 2009 – Thought for the day

We all see different things when we look into the face of a child. Just imagine if we would behold each child as made in the image of God. Imagine if each time we saw a child, we heard God’s voice regarding God’s handiwork, declaring, “It is excellent in the eyes of the Lord.” How differently might we nurture the children of our world? How differently might we regard the children we encounter in public? How might we advocate differently…better… on behalf of the children whom we will never meet, who maybe represent only a stastistic…but who likewise bear the image of God?

Think of the responsibility we all bear for this very good, “excellent” creation and honor your likeness in each of them.

Welcome

Dear Parents, Practitioners, and other readers,

If you have previously seen my website, then you will notice I’ve recently revised it and made some changes so that it will be more fluid and up-to-date. I’m looking forward to this added venue to keep in touch with all of you out there. Please feel free to comment here. Tell others your experiences with using the WaterWayBabies System. And share with the rest of us your child’s challenges as well as his/her accomplishments. I think I can safely say that we are all interested….we want to know.

I have learned so much in the past year from all of you. Parents of special needs infants are the most inspiring parent group one could know! You each eagerly anticipated the birth of your child, then dealt with the sadness that something was wrong, and yet, somehow, through strength, determination, and faith,  you quickly moved out of despair into the land of hope. All the while, loving your special child more and more. You never give up on your quest to provide everything possible for your child’s highest gain.

My hat is off to each and all of you!
